home – Loud and Raw http://loudandraw.com Moving Forward Fri, 11 Jan 2013 04:06:00 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.1 Basic Plumbing Skill http://loudandraw.com/archives/1444 http://loudandraw.com/archives/1444#respond Sun, 26 Aug 2012 12:09:53 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=1444 Share

Being at home for quite a while must have a huge effect for me recently as I learned to enhance by Do-It-Yourself skills on tinkering things inside our house. One time, while I have nothing to do, I took a peek under our sink to check on a long time leak problem. Leaks under the sink are disgusting, and promote bacteria build up and a den for pests such as roaches. Whenever I see roaches wandering around I always spray pesticide under the sink and it seems to solve the problem for a period of time but they do come back after a while. Technically, the leak on our sink is surely causing me a hard time and man, it is indeed tough.

The problem made me realized that I must fix it as soon as possible without the help of a plumber since I found problem, then I must solve it alone. I bought some tools and materials to be used and that includes the sealant, pipes and the most important thing, a set of copper plumbing supplies which I believe will do the trick mainly because copper produces no odor in longevity. It does not rust at all and it is easy to thread it without destroying it. Not to mention that it looks sturdy tough even though nobody will look into it unless they want to check my work or how good our plumbing system is. So there I have the right supplies and all I did was install it just like the old, worn out piping and fittings. It took me about an hour to finish the job though. I cleaned the old pipes before I dismantle it and then measure the proper sizes and lengths of the line to make it accurate. While I was installing the copper fitting, I also realized that this should be the one installed instead of the old plastic one because those plastic fitting crack after a few years which is the passage way of some nasty looking roaches and moreover it stinks.

It took me a little bit of observation and determination to start fixing the pipes and as of this writing  no leaks can be seen as I just did what my instinct told m too. However, plumbers are always the best bet for doing this kind of stuffs but of course, it won’t help doing it yourself at all. At least, I had the luxury of choosing the materials I know will work and I have myself to blame if it deteriorate after quite some time.

Spending time on my Porch Glider Chair http://loudandraw.com/archives/1350 http://loudandraw.com/archives/1350#respond Wed, 11 Jul 2012 03:24:01 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=1350 Share

I have a lots of friends and quite a number of colleagues. Yes I enjoy their company and a night out with some of them is extremely fun however, tiring. Chatting with colleagues is enlightening as well as information just kept on coming in – false or not the feeling of having so many to talk to is inspiring. But what really strikes me the most is the need for some time alone. Being in a crowded environment is very exhausting, blending in speaking myself out and so on. The excitement to be alone for a little time is really the real deal whether I spend it out of town or just inside my room and staring at the ceiling or its four corners, a silent treatment is I think, the word for this. Well, I have my own way of being alone – or maybe just like everyone, but I do it as well on our home porch glider chair or to make it sound classy, a patio glider bench.

Being outside is different when you are enclosed inside the safe confinements of your home or office or maybe a spa to name a few. But sitting on the porch beside our closed doors brings a relaxing feeling couple it up with a coffee or reading a book just to kill some time. Being alone helps me think on some thoughts that is reserved, unlike with people around the pressure sometimes control how and what to I think. How not to be like this or that, not to act like them or by any circumstances, staying out of it is fulfilling. To cut the story short, I consider sitting on our porch as one of the best ways to unwind from a busy lifestyle. Having lots of people around us is not that bad but spending time alone is just as good as having all of them.

Enjoying home http://loudandraw.com/archives/839 http://loudandraw.com/archives/839#respond Mon, 01 Feb 2010 16:21:08 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=839 Share

I love my home more than anything else. You may ask me why but I’ll just say that my home is where I feel all the luxury I need. I can sleep freely, move around, enjoy the air and do anything I want. But guess what, a home will never be one without rugs. Now that I’ve thought about that, there was this one time that I am looking for stuffs that I want to put in my room so I went to a nearby mall and looked for discount rugs, luckily I found one. I just think that rugs can be simply amazing and there are no reasons that I need to tell someone, its just simply amazing and somewhat comfortable and so I like it. If ever you want to put something new in your home, try looking for rugs alright?

Mounting Valuables http://loudandraw.com/archives/684 http://loudandraw.com/archives/684#respond Tue, 06 Oct 2009 05:45:39 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=684 Share

Last time I renovated my room, I bought some useful stuffs like rack mounts and hangers. I made my room space efficient and mounting was the best way I came up with. Because my room is so small, I needed some work to make it look and have a feel of being big. I love fixing my room especially when it comes to trying different ways to make it look good but one thing I always and will always like is my guitar collection mmounted on the wall and some other collections displayed on a rack mount.

Interior Matters http://loudandraw.com/archives/323 http://loudandraw.com/archives/323#respond Tue, 24 Mar 2009 16:26:28 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=323 Share

When we talk about people, we always tend to say that what is important is what is in the inside. When it comes to our homes, it is important that the inside should be equipped with a good touch of interior design. Just like in the case where we always hang out inside our own home. The place where the entertainment comes to life and everyone, like your friends and colleagues enjoy hanging out, our entertainment room.

However, there is more to it than making it function, everything should be well furnished and with the help of a home theater furniture, you can have the touch of any theme you like for the sake of making the lively even livelier. Remember, this is where the fun is mostly done so better make it worth going to.

24 Hour Look Out Service http://loudandraw.com/archives/244 http://loudandraw.com/archives/244#respond Thu, 12 Feb 2009 03:26:10 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=244 Share

I am thinking of a good item that can be on guard round the clock especially at night. Since I was hearing some footsteps on our roof every once in a while especially late at night I might as well install a burglar alarm in our house. Just for safety, because who wants to be robbed? or who wants to get their life in danger that is the reason this kind of item was invented and it became quite useful for many other uses just like in malls, boutiques and at home. Who knows who and what might sneak in when our eyes are away!

Movies & Music http://loudandraw.com/archives/179 http://loudandraw.com/archives/179#respond Tue, 02 Dec 2008 03:16:27 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=179 Share

What do you think of having a good set of home theater? I definitely like to have one especially if it has a leather home theater seating where I can seat comfortably and feel like an executive on vacation. I mean it feels good to have a home theater and watch movies with a blast and listening to music on a surround sound. Nothing is better than feeling like a rock star! If ever I will have a home theater here someday, I will invite my band at my place and use that room to play music like a concert in a hall or maybe, I’ll just put up a rehearsal studio to avoid loitering on my future home theater.

How to Make a Mini Garden for your Pocket Home http://loudandraw.com/archives/13 http://loudandraw.com/archives/13#comments Sun, 15 Jun 2008 10:13:52 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=13 Share

Whether you have a green thumb and just moved into a small space in the city, or you are a condo dweller looking for a simple nature-friendly hobby to keep you busy at home, a pocket garden may just be what you are looking for. Not only will it keep you preoccupied, it is also a chance to give you pad a much needed facelift or some character. And if you choose to care for a small fruit tree or tend to pots of herbs, it will give you something you can munch on or cook with i the future.

Lets face it: living in a condo unit isn’t the same as having your own backyard. But with careful planning, patience and discipline, you can achieve results. You just need to consider the following things: location, amount of sunlight, and the plant suitable for your space.

Befor making that plunge into gardening, assess your living space. If you are lucky to have a patio or balcony, then you have it all worked out for you. Whatever size of open space you have, it will make a goog place to start your mini garden. And if you’re unlucky not to have one, then putting some plants by a window might be an option, as well as choosing some shade-tolerant varieties indoors.

After you’ve chosen where you can place your garden, find out how much sunlight the spot recieves. This will make it easy to select the right houseplant for you.

It’s then off to the nursery for you. Do no hesitate to ask questions from a nursery staff when choosing what plants will suit your needs. Ask them for advice, and be honest in telling them how much time you have in day to care for a plant and whether you think you’re good or not in gardening. This way you can make th right choice.

You can always start small and simple with cactus, aloe or other succulents. These plants do not require direct sunlight to grow, need only pots, and come in a variety of sizes and color.

Other east-to-maintain plants are the peace lily (spathyhyllum) and dracaena (fortune plant). They Thrive under any light condition, and need just watering for care.

Another foolprofft plant is the philodendron, which is often grown for indoor use. This plant has very few problems with pests and does not require that much watering. In fact, many gardeners suggest the philodendron to first-time plant enthusiasts because they are very resilient and have long lifespan.

If you love to cook and your kitchen windowsill in little pots, a window box, or pretty much any container you can think of — a coffee mug, small plastic tub or tin — so long as you create drainage holes in the bathroom. Choices are endless. Try basil, parsley, oregano, and chives.

And if you are adventurous enough, why not try growing a citrus plant, like calamansi? there are number of dwarf citrus fruit tree varieties that you could grow on your balcony. Citrus plats bring color and fragrance into homes, which beat just about any air freshener.

When planning your mini-garden, consider the pots you will use. Almost anything can be turned into a pot. so long as you plug a hole or two at the bottom for drainage. Clay pots might be a traditional choice, but you can experiment with old watering cans, used boots or even a helmet! But do try to match the containers to your interiors.

And always remember to grrom your plants. As plants grow, they needed to have their roots trimmed. Plants that have grown a bit too larger for their pots should be repotted.

This is an article for plant lovers who wants to keep their space preoccupied and at the same time suiting to their needs. I found this article from Philippine Star, Business Section. Sunday June 15 2008 and then managed to post it here for reference about gardening.
