leak – Loud and Raw http://loudandraw.com Moving Forward Thu, 30 Aug 2012 14:43:56 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.1 Basic Plumbing Skill http://loudandraw.com/archives/1444 http://loudandraw.com/archives/1444#respond Sun, 26 Aug 2012 12:09:53 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=1444 Share

Being at home for quite a while must have a huge effect for me recently as I learned to enhance by Do-It-Yourself skills on tinkering things inside our house. One time, while I have nothing to do, I took a peek under our sink to check on a long time leak problem. Leaks under the sink are disgusting, and promote bacteria build up and a den for pests such as roaches. Whenever I see roaches wandering around I always spray pesticide under the sink and it seems to solve the problem for a period of time but they do come back after a while. Technically, the leak on our sink is surely causing me a hard time and man, it is indeed tough.

The problem made me realized that I must fix it as soon as possible without the help of a plumber since I found problem, then I must solve it alone. I bought some tools and materials to be used and that includes the sealant, pipes and the most important thing, a set of copper plumbing supplies which I believe will do the trick mainly because copper produces no odor in longevity. It does not rust at all and it is easy to thread it without destroying it. Not to mention that it looks sturdy tough even though nobody will look into it unless they want to check my work or how good our plumbing system is. So there I have the right supplies and all I did was install it just like the old, worn out piping and fittings. It took me about an hour to finish the job though. I cleaned the old pipes before I dismantle it and then measure the proper sizes and lengths of the line to make it accurate. While I was installing the copper fitting, I also realized that this should be the one installed instead of the old plastic one because those plastic fitting crack after a few years which is the passage way of some nasty looking roaches and moreover it stinks.

It took me a little bit of observation and determination to start fixing the pipes and as of this writing  no leaks can be seen as I just did what my instinct told m too. However, plumbers are always the best bet for doing this kind of stuffs but of course, it won’t help doing it yourself at all. At least, I had the luxury of choosing the materials I know will work and I have myself to blame if it deteriorate after quite some time.
