Whats Cool?” Reaction http://loudandraw.com/archives/652 http://loudandraw.com/archives/652#respond Wed, 09 Sep 2009 17:05:24 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=652 Share

This year’s Strategic Marketing talked about the power of the cyber world, meaning the internet as a good source of opportunities for marketers and other alternatives where students can get good opportunities like sports casting. There are lots of opportunities out there that are undiscovered by most of us though some tried and triumphed in their fields, others might just take it for granted so the speakers told their story and how they managed to be on the top of their careers. For marketing and advertising, TVC, Print, Radio are one of the most effective media to air an advertisement, but since the age of the internet has risen dramatically, advertisers and marketing professionals used the internet as one of their advertising media. Social Networking sits prove to be a good way to start advertising since people of all ages love to share their life in the internet with friends and build networks around the world.

The president of Microventures, Bam Aquino and the Vice-President of PLDT talked about What’s Cool? What’s Hot? as the theme of this year’s strategic marketing. Butch Jimenez talked about rising to the top and being recognized through positive attitude and practices. Standing out among all competitors is important so that consumers will notice it and maybe be the brand inside the consumer’s heads. Being the icon that first pops in the consumer’s head means that a brand successfully managed to penetrate the market be become respected and widely used terms in the industry.

There are lots of cool jobs out there waiting for the marketing students just like what Executive Director of Asia Pacific Film Institute and Executive Director for Talent Development of Business Processing Association told the students and listeners in the Stratmark 2009 and also mentioning the opportunities in the Business Process Outsourcing. BPO, is a form of outsourcing that involves contracting an operation and responsibilities to third-party service providers.

Clickthecity.com’s Business Development Director Edward David, Friendster Country Manager Narciso Reyes and Community Manager of Yahoo Philippines Jonas Renejo delos Reyes talked about the advertising and marketing opportunities through the internet and how successful can it be with the target markets being reached properly. New Media are the new technologies developed to provide people to have an easy life and marketing professionals also use this to make their companies compete in a very innovative world. Being the new trend in the Marketing Industry, more and more companies and marketing professionals learn to embrace the fact that they should use this for advertising like posting ads, rich media and being the no.1 most searched term in the internet to produce a very good increase in sales and popularity. Internet users are consumers as well so this is a good chance for companies to keep up with the consumers. But one thing that I can’t forget is that, one of the speakers told that though internet proves to be a good way to market and advertise, we should not forget the power of TVC, print radios or the local media because certain people can only be accessible by those mentioned.

As for my personal experience, I can proudly say that I’ve been using internet to earn some cash by just being a blogger who advertises products and review them so that people can have a good idea about it just by searching the internet. Being a blogger can be hard sometimes, but as long as I enjoy writing there will always be a reason to make it worth it. Another thing, the topics I post should always be visible and accessible to others so that readers can see it clearly when my post is redirected from search engines. One technique to make sure that the topics I post will be seen by others is by Search Engine Optimization which means that choosing the right keywords can earn you the right spot in search engines such as Google, Yahoo and so on. I am glad that I became part of this year’s Strategic Marketing because I have proven what I am practicing for a year now and I also learned a lot of things just by listening to the speakers. Thanks to Philippine Junior Marketing Association, many marketing students from different colleges and universities  learned a lot about what is hotter and what is cooler in our industry.

Strat Mark 2008: Youthenics Report http://loudandraw.com/archives/104 http://loudandraw.com/archives/104#comments Mon, 18 Aug 2008 01:13:57 +0000 http://loudandraw.com/?p=104 Share

Last July 29, 2008, a Marketing convention was held in Araneta Coliseum called StratMark. The said event’s theme was “Youthenics” which as the name implies, the youth as the future of the Marketing Industry. First off, I was amazed on the number of schools that participated on the said event; they were all well known schools from Business, Marketing, and Advertising. I managed to take a list of the speakers who pointed out the importance of the youth as a marketing practitioner and my reaction about their discussion. To Learn fresh research findings and information on the youth target market, their consumer insights, products that cater to them, advertising that sells and prospects for the future. Im thankful for having a good memory. 🙂

April Timbol Yap – Strike a Post: Iconic Cool among Today’s Youth
The speaker particularly cited the trends before and the trends today. In marketing, old trends are just references for the future’s study. Though it used to be something everyone looked up to, time is changing and keeps on evolving. For me, same strategies does not work every time and through studying the factors affecting today’s trends and lifestyle there will be more opportunities for future marketers.
The speaker also gave the importance on studying the behaviour of the youth today, including the needs and wants, buying behaviour, product perception and the amount of money being saved and spent for a product or a service. Buying behaviour is also changing so it is up to marketers particularly the future marketers to make a way to cope up with the changing habits of today’s’ youth.

Jade Manalaysay-Tulio – Point of Entry Marketing: Introducing Allue to tweens
The discussion is about the case study about influencing a child to use cosmetic products and know its importance together with proper application, advantages and disadvantages.
I first thought that the speaker is talking about irrelevant topics but as the discussion continues, as a marketer I have understood what HBC’s campaign was. It is called forecasting, market targeting and demographics of the consumers. This time, they targeted the young girls as young as three years old to use beauty products. For some reason, I thought that their advertising campaign was too flirty for little girls but the advertising campaign clearly focused on the ethical behaviour of a child, the somewhat acceptable manner for their age. In the end, as the speaker said, no matter how much attractive a little girl may be, in the end it will be the adults to decide what the best is for their child.

March Ventosa – Is Branded Advertising the New Advertising?
The speaker discussed about the branded entertainment, the use of multimedia of entertainment in advertising product or a brand. Simply to say, a brand, mostly is the name of a product line of a product. Here, the speaker showed clips about a product being used in a movie just like an advertisement on a T.V., but this time it is used on a movie.
The speaker also showed the success of Jollibee having Sarah Geronimo as their endorser. Using respectable images can change the consumer perception about certain products. The new advertising is more complex and beginning to be more creative than being just creative. It must be uniquely portrayed and must be used in special events to highlight its status.

Jos Ortega – The World’s Best Youth-Driven Ads
The speaker gave clips about the best youth-driven ads all over the world. Simply to say, advertisements that was youth-inspired. It may be the idea of the youth or an idea for the youth. An advertisement targeting the youth group creates different perceptions, in which all of the reactions are valuable to the improvement of an advertisement.
There are clips of advertisements that range from categories such as: Humour, Tragic, Sci-Fi, reality, experience and more. The clips opened up my mind into creative thinking and formulating a new kind of advertisement inside my head. It triggers my curiosity about how an advertisement would change the whole image of a product; in return, it may be good or bad depending on the way the viewers analyzed the advertisements.

Prof. Henry Tenedero – Gothca! The Filipino Genius Building Empires of the Future
The last speaker talked about the geniuses of the world, he is pointing out everyone and claiming that everyone is a genius in their own little ways. No one is useless unless they choose to be one. Different people have different personality; they all have different awareness, understanding, and perceptions from what they see.
If everyone would only open their minds about the importance of one they know, every single one of us will form a synergy and together create an output that far exceeds expectations. He also talked about the different kinds of geniuses, whether they are geniuses in sports, academics, or art, they are all important in building a better empire in the future. Prof. Henry was the liveliest speaker than the rest of them; He knows how to handle the crowd as if he was talking to everyone face to face and personal. His goals and visions are clearly passed on to his listeners, meaning, us – the youth of tomorrow.

What is Strategic Marketing or StratMark? An event particularly for marketing students of different colleges and universities all-over the country and was held in Araneta Coliseum last 29th of July. The focus of the said event is to establish the advancement of every youth in the understanding of marketing and advertising and to keep the youth of today help the future of the marketing industry.

There were many speakers during Stratmark, in which most of them are professionals. Though the talking was long, lessons are gained even not knowingly. Marketing is very important in all aspects of our lives. It is not just about making profit, selling products and advertising products, it is more of a personal quest for innovation and development. Again, the speakers are focused on bringing the best out of the youth of today to bring Marketing into higher level.

No classes today due to SONA and Typhoon for Metro Manila and some other cities and provinces. I think this is the third State Of the Nation Address of our president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo if am not mistaken. So what is it about? It is supposed to be a developmental speech for the country including the plans, vision and mission of the president for the country. Of course, upon the delivery of her goals in a form of speech, there will be lots of critics in which i believe will not be very constructive.

As for me, I will take this time to rest for tomorrow’s StratMark – Strategic Marketing Conference & Competitio. It will be held in Araneta Coliseum, July 29 2008 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. it will be a long day for us tomorrow so I better take this opportunity to rest for me to keep myself awake on the said event.
